Downtown Peterborough Narrowly Survives Blackout
Thursday December 6th 11:50AM —
A vicious blackout crippled Peterborough’s downtown core this morning sending shoppers and business owners into a Tweeting frenzy. Mere seconds after the lights went dark Twitter lit up (presumably on battery power and a 3G connection) and the #ptboblackout hashtag was (somewhere) near trending.
The blackout was initially believed to be caused by @Doug_Tilley’s voice – as reported by @PTBO_Canada – however, @ptbo_utiliites later confirmed it was a tree that had fallen on some power stuff. Amongst all the Tweets, darkness and confusion, there was one ray of sunshine -@birchbarkscott took the situation into his own hands and began live reporting from the scene:

… But as time wore on the temperature started to drop and the situation was getting desperate, Scott came through with a critical survival tip:
In the end though, after nearly an hour, it was the good folks @PTBO_Utilities who where able to flip the switch and restore the balance of power again in Downtown Peterborough …
