As we take drastic measures to help keep ourselves and those around us safe from COVID19 we’ve had to make some uncomfortable sacrifices. The silver lining has been that we have been reminded of what is truly important in our lives. If we look closely enough each day we can discover a small act or moment that we are grateful for. Something that was always there, but now without the busyness of life we realize just how valuable it is.

We want to create a video that will spread this message but we need help to get it done.

Practicing self-isolation means we need to take a different approach to produce this video. We also want to emphasize that we are all in this together by making this a community project. So we are inviting you to help film this message.

We are looking for videographers of all skill levels, from seasoned professionals to anyone with a smartphone that wants to help shift perspectives on this virus from fear to gratitude.

Let’s come together and do something that can make a difference!

Direction

This video is not about the “news story” show of gratitude. It is about the everyday moments that are helping us to get through this.

Keywords

Gratitude, Connection, Moments

Prompts

Beauty – Despite the uncertainty and challenge, if we look there is beauty all around us. Look for it and document it.

Vulnerability – This video should feel authentic and human. The feeling we want is that the audience is getting a window into our lives. It should be raw/real.

Letting Go – We can’t deny that this is a difficult time and there are many unknowns. Part of the journey is coming to terms with the unknown and letting go of the things you can’t control. Look for ways to visually document that.

Shooting Style

We want the footage to feel raw and unproduced, so whatever camera you have is the best camera to use. This includes smartphones, just be sure to shoot them widescreen (sideways). Here’s some direction:

Shooting handheld is best as we want the camera movements to feel natural/human. So no gimbal or slider shots.

If you have a camera with different lenses use focal length closest to the human eye – 50mm or 24mm/34mm. No wide angles. We want the audience to feel like they are there.

Shotlist Ideas

  • Time with family
  • Connecting virtually with friends and family
  • Delivering groceries for a neighbour
  • Messages in windows/porches
  • Waving to people from a distance
  • Slowing down (reading, art, music)
  • Cooking and eating together
  • Planting seeds, flowers blooming
  • Putting the phone down
  • Helping those who need to stay inside
  • Nature

Natural lighting is best. Daylight if you can.

Make sure to capture audio, on-camera audio is fine.

Directing – make it real. We don’t want overly directed shots.

Safety

All of your footage must be captured while obeying the current laws and measures that are in place to help stop the spread of COVID-19. Please do not travel or come in contact with people outside of your household to get a shot.
